What a book. I am BEREFT that I have finished it, but delighted that there are three more books in the series.
Not only is it a great read, there is also the added mystery that the only person who actually knows who Elena Ferrante is, is her publisher. She could be a he. He or she could be any nationality other than Italian, we just don’t know, but reading it I can’t imagine HER to be anything but ITALIAN and I wonder if perhaps it is autobiographical.
I don’t want to give too much away, because if you are reading this, you should so read this book. It’s a tale of two little girls growing up in a deprived part of Naples and the story of them growing into teenagers, the choices they make, the decisions that are made for them and the circumstances that dictate the way in which their lives go.
It is beautifully written, it’s evocative, it’s brave and it just makes you want to lie on the beach in the Bay of Naples, kiss boys, eat pizza and devour the next three installments.
